Safe payments with MakeCommerce: why your online and in-store payments are in good hands
With growing attention on mobile payment scams, phishing tricks, and NFC “ghost tap” stories, it’s natural to ask: how safe are today’s digital payments? At MakeCommerce, we welcome these questions — because we know the strength of what’s behind every transaction.
We take security seriously. Whether a customer is paying online, tapping their card on a merchant’s phone running our Android app, or using a traditional payment terminal, their payment is backed by technology and standards designed to prevent fraud and protect sensitive information. Here’s how we do it — and why it matters.
Security at the core of every payment
Security isn’t an add-on. It’s the foundation we build everything on. Our online payment platform, Android app (tap-on-phone) solution, and traditional payment terminals follow strict international standards that make safe payments a daily reality.
Depending on the payment method, MakeCommerce uses either tokenization or 3D Secure (3DS) to protect card transactions. In all cases, your card details are protected by strong, industry-approved security mechanisms.
Tap-on-Phone solutions operate exclusively through a dedicated and secure payment app. These apps use strong encryption and certified key management to protect every transaction. Card data is never stored on the device, and it’s encrypted during the transaction. Without access to secure keys, no unauthorized party can read or use this information.
MakeCommerce has been PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) Level 1 compliant for several years. PCI DSS is the globally recognized benchmark for protecting card data and reducing the risk of fraud. Compliance with the highest-level requirements means MakeCommerce applies cutting-edge technologies and strict protocols to ensure maximum transaction safety.
Online transactions backed by international standards
Our online payment systems are built with the same commitment. Depending on the payment method, transactions are either tokenized or protected with 3D Secure (Verified by Visa, Mastercard Identity Check). We comply with PSD2 regulations, including Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), which adds another layer of identity verification during checkout.
Mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay never share the actual card number during a transaction. Instead, they create a one-time-use token that acts as a secure stand-in for the real card. Even if this token were intercepted, it couldn’t be reused or linked to the cardholder’s account. This is one of the key reasons why contactless mobile payments are not only convenient but also among the safest.
And while fraudsters may try to stay one step ahead, our real-time monitoring and fraud detection tools help keep them in check. Every transaction is analyzed and handled by our systems and bank systems designed to protect both merchants and buyers.
Not just stories, but real protection
The media has recently highlighted various fraud tactics involving mobile payments. These include phishing attempts, malicious apps, and schemes that mimic legitimate services. Often, these scams rely on user error or weak systems that lack proper checks.
At MakeCommerce, we build systems that don’t leave room for shortcuts. Our Android app solution only processes a payment when a customer physically taps their card or device. There’s no background data harvesting, no passive NFC scanning. Our systems are designed to prevent misuse and minimise risks for merchants and customers alike.
Simple habits, stronger trust
Technology does the heavy lifting, but smart daily habits also matter. We recommend always downloading the apps from official stores like Apple App Store or Google Play, keeping your phone’s software up to date, and being cautious of any unfamiliar apps requesting NFC access. Merchants should use secure Wi-Fi connections and train their staff on identifying and preventing fraud.
And if something seems off? Report it. It’s always better to double-check.
A shared responsibility for safer payments
Security isn’t just about tools and protocols — it’s also about mindset. From small market stalls to larger online stores, every business that handles payments has a part to play in keeping transactions secure.
At MakeCommerce, we’ll continue investing in ways to support safe, simple, and transparent payment experiences. And we’ll keep sharing knowledge and updates to help you stay informed and confident about the tools you use.
