The moment your platform touches the money, the rules change.

The hardest thing about launching a marketplace is not the product. It is what happens between the buyer paying and the seller getting paid.

The instant your platform pools, holds, or transmits user funds – even for an hour – you are standing at the doorstep of becoming a regulated payment institution. Capital requirements. AML programmes. Supervisor relationships. Six-figure setup costs before you have shipped a single order.

There is a better path: don’t touch the money at all.

Run the marketplace. We run the money.

MakeCommerce sits between your buyers and your sellers – collecting funds, splitting payouts, and carrying the regulated infrastructure so you never have to.

PROCESSING

Your platform fee

Sellers are paid when your platform releases the payout. SEPA transfers arrive same or next working day.

Why marketplaces choose us

Built for how marketplaces actually work.

From payment collection to seller payouts, handled end-to-end.

🔀

One payment, many payouts

Split a single buyer transaction across one, ten, or fifty sellers. Each gets a separate SEPA payout, tracked and settled independently.

⏱️

Automatic or manual payout creation

Use the auto-payout flag when payouts should be created after payment completion, or create payouts manually after your platform verifies the order state.

🏦

Same / next-day SEPA

After payouts are created, SEPA payouts run twice every working day. Sellers see the money fast, with your platform reference on their statement.

🛡️

No financial licence needed

MakeCommerce is the regulated paying party. Your platform never holds or transmits user funds – which is what triggers PI licensing in the EU.

How it works

From transaction creation to payout creation – here is the flow.

1

Set up the payment

Tell us the total amount and who gets paid what. Include each seller’s name, IBAN, and their share of the transaction. We take it from there.

2

Buyer pays

The customer pays through the MakeCommerce checkout – bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or card. We notify your platform the moment the payment is confirmed.

3

Sellers get paid

Once payment is confirmed, MakeCommerce can pay out sellers automatically – or your platform can trigger payouts when you are ready, after the order ships or the service is delivered.

Everything your payout flow needs.

From payout creation control to full API access – no missing pieces.

📅

Payout creation control

Choose whether payouts are sent automatically when the payment lands, or hold them until your platform is ready – after the order ships, the service is delivered, or a return window closes.

🔢

Per-seller split rules

Set a different payout amount for each seller in the same transaction. Platform fee deducted automatically – straight to your account.

Refunds and cancellations

Issue full or partial refunds when needed. If you hold payouts before releasing them, you can cancel an individual seller payout before it goes out. Every payout status is visible from the moment it is created to the moment it settles.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a payment institution licence to use this?

No. With MakeCommerce as the regulated paying party, your platform does not hold or transmit user funds – which is what triggers PI licensing requirements in the EU. You operate as a marketplace facilitator. (You still have your own AML/KYC obligations on your sellers – see below.)

Who is responsible for KYC and AML on the sellers?

You are. The platform onboards and verifies its sellers. MakeCommerce KYC’s the platform itself; you KYC the sellers on your platform. We will walk through what good looks like during onboarding.

How quickly do sellers receive payouts?

Same or next working day after the payout is created, via twice-daily SEPA batches. If you use automatic payouts, MakeCommerce releases funds to sellers within around 5 minutes of the buyer’s payment being confirmed.

Can I set different payout rules per seller?

Yes. Each seller in a transaction gets their own payout amount and IBAN. You define the split per transaction – amounts can vary by order, by seller, or by any rule your platform applies.

What currencies are supported?

EUR at launch. Multi-currency is on the roadmap; we are prioritising based on customer demand. Seller payouts settle to any euro-area IBAN via SEPA.

Is there an API for payouts?

Yes – the whole flow runs through our API. We provide full developer documentation and a sandbox environment so your team can build and test end-to-end before going live. Request sandbox access.

Can we hold funds before paying out?

Yes. By default, payouts are held until your platform releases them. Create payouts when you are ready – when the order ships, when the service is delivered, or once a return window closes.

What if a seller cannot deliver?

If you hold payouts before releasing them and the payout has not gone out yet, you can cancel that seller’s payout and refund the buyer – fully or partially. Refunds settle from your MakeCommerce balance.
